Al-Rumayṣāʾ bint Milḥān (Arabic: الرميصاء بنت ملحان; died c. CE; 28 AH), popularly known by her kunya as Umm Sulaym, was a companion of Islamic prophet Muhammad and was one of the earliest women converts to Islam in Yathrib (now Medina).

Kadın Şahsiyetler ve Hanım Sahabiler Umm Sulaym (radhiAllahu ‘anha) was an Ansaari woman from Madeenah. She embraced Islaam with the early Muslims. The historians disagree over her real name; some said her name was Sahlah, some said it was Rumaylah, others say it is Maleekah and some say it is Ghumaysa or Rumaysah.


It was narrated from Anas bin Umm Sulaim bint Milhan Al-Ansariyyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When I entered the Paradise, I heard someone's footsteps - It was explained to me that she was Ghumiysa' bint Milhan." She came from an illustrious family who sacrificed its all for Islam.

Bint binu bion bira Umm Sulaym was a model Muslim, a model wife and mother. Known for her excellent character, the power of her intellect and her independent attitude of mind, she was one of the first women in Madinah to embrace Islam.

Umm Sulaym was one of the first women of Yathrib to accept Islaam. She was influenced by the refined, dedicated and persuasive Mus'ab ibn 'Umayr who was sent out as the first missionary or ambassador of Islaam by the noble Prophet. This was after the first pledge of 'Aqabah.


Sayyidah Ummu Sulaym bint Milhan (radiyallahu ‘anha) is described to be among the virtuous, eminent and intelligent women. She is commonly known by her agnomen (Ummu Sulaym). The Biographers of Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) have differed regarding her name.

Umm Sulaym’s full name was Sahlah or Rumaylah or Mulaykah bint Milhaan ibn Khaalid ibn Zayd ibn Haraam ibn Jundub al-Ansaariyyah (may Allaah be pleased with her). She was the mother of Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him), and is best known by her kunyah; there is some difference of opinion as to her given name.
